The answer to whether you can delete recording channels in ASOne is more complex than a simple yes-or-no.
You need to understand that recording channels appear in your speaker list, as do speaker names that you add to the list. First, let's understand the difference visually.
Actual recording channels will have a visual audio meter and gain control, while an added speaker to the speaker list will not. This also applies to recordings using the Zoom option.
Let's start with deleting actual recording channels. Can you? Yes, but there are consequences if you have already started your recording session and have recorded audio for that channel. If I delete a recording channel with audio, the audio is deleted as well. So the answer to this would be NO, do not do this. Doing this would compromise your recording. This is so critical that if you try to do this, you will receive a warning giving you an option to cancel the deletion.
There are only a few situations where it is safe to delete an actual recording channel:
- IF you have not started recording yet.
- IF you are connected to a mic mixer and you are deleting channels that do not have a microphone connected.
- IF you are recording using the Hybrid method and you mistakenly selected two inputs or two outputs.
If in doubt, do not do this, as it cannot be undone.
Now, what about deleting a speaker name from the list that is not also a recording channel? You can do this, but like above, there are consequences.
If you have already used this speaker name to identify speakers in your transcript, you will also be deleting those speaker labels in the transcript. So, if you have not used this speaker label yet, you are safe to remove it. If you have used this speaker label in the transcript, DO NOT delete it.
