Save, Auto-Save, Backup, and Auto-Upload

There are multiple ways we've attempted to prevent loss of your hard-earned work product. Let's look at each of them in turn.

Save

As you would expect, you can save your progress at any time. You can click the [Save] button on the File tab. Or, even easier, you can use the default hotkey [Ctrl]+[S].

Save As

As always, we have a robust Save As option. But there are some changes to note. Due to the requirement for the new versioning system for Track Changes to be turned on by default, we have added a new button on the File tab, [Save As With Tracking]. This preserves the change tracking status of the document for cases where you would want that ability. If you wish to save a plain document that doesn't include all of the change tracking, just use [Save As] like your normally would.

Auto-Save

In addition to manual control of your saves, we also automatically save your document five minutes after you've made an edit. It's that easy! Correct a spelling, change a word, add a word, delete a word, etc., and five minutes later your document will be saved automatically.

Backup

In addition to saving your current document, we also create a backup version on your computer every 3 auto-saves. This means that if you're working non-stop you'll have a backup version created every 15 minutes. Likewise, if you had to take a break and walk away, we won't clutter up your hard drive with extra copies of the document. We only create backups if you're actually busy working.

Auto-Upload

As part of our changes to the versioning feature, a copy of your current edits to the current version of the document you're working on will be uploaded to AutoScript Web (ASW) every time there is an auto-save. In addition, you can manually upload and update the version on ASW by clicking the [Upload to AutoScript Web] button on the Home tab.

Just in Case You Forgot

And, finally, just in case you forgot to save your last few minutes of work, you'll be asked what you want to do when you close the program. When you close ASD you'll see the following choices.

Continue Later - This choice will upload your current progress to the copy on ASW before closing, but will not change the status of the job.
Complete Job - This choice will upload your current progress to the copy of this version on ASW, and it will also Mark as Complete the current status of the job. NOTE: If you are an Independent Contractor who doesn't use the job status feature, you can just ignore this option.
Close Without Saving - This choice will close the program without saving anything, both locally and on ASW. This is useful if you've done something very wrong and don't want the changes committed anywhere.
Cancel - This choice doesn't save anything and cancels the process of closing the program.
